I started dancing in the fall of 2021 when I attended an online event called Rollettes Experience hosted by the Rollettes dance team who is based in Los Angeles. I took online classes taught by members of the team for four years. On August 3, 2024 I began taking my first weekly dance class. Dance has become a passion of mine not only a hobby.
At first dance was simply for fun. Creating the community I needed so badly for many years. I knew immediately after my first Rollettes experience that I needed to stay connected to the community, at this time I had not gotten my first wheelchair yet ( as an older adult. Taking our class in particular has helped me to become comfortable with my body as a wheelchair chair using disabled woman. Dance helps me feel, feminine, strong sexy and powerful. My goal as a dancer is to continue to become this confident version of myself inside and out.
Today’s class was fun! Dance has taught me how to fully embrace self acceptance. I don’t move like a non disabled dancer and my body often does what it wants. I learned how to see my spasms as part of the routine. Ps. My classmate Brianna always makes this old lady go first 🤣
Forgiving yourself is a risk, but it feels so good. Thank you, Miss Nat
Discovering who I am as a dancer has a world of difference in my Disability Acceptance. I move with freedom not only in the studio but in my day to day life.
I speak from experience when I say this class brings something out of you that you didn’t know you needed to find. Come check us out. The.class is accepting.disabled dancers 10 and up.. we meet on Saturday at 1:30 pm. I’ve tagged the studio. Contact them for details..
32 year old Marie would be so proud of 44 year old Marie. When I was 32 I took my walker to a musical because I wanted to look beautiful and “normal’ when I was 39 I started my journey to accepting my disability, and the thing that helped me do that was dance. August 3rd 2024 was my first ever in person dance class with @marlyepage. The instructors at @csscdance have seen me nearly every single week. Today I had my heart broken as I was told our class was canceled. I really did try to help spread the word about how life changing it is. I did not roll out of that class the same way I rolled in. I’m no longer ashamed to be me. Thank you dance family. I love you so much.
