Check on Each Other

What makes a good neighbor?

I live in an awesome Leave it to Beaver neighborhood.

Our neighborhood is an awesome group of people who make it a priority to check in on each other and share things with each other.

The standard that God calls us to, is to love our neighbor as we love ourselves, and that is something that can be difficult. Thank God that following Jesus is a constant learning process. We will never be perfect until Christ makes it perfect.

Let my work inspire you not my Cerebral Palsy

Simply calling someone an inspiration may seem like a compliment, but it is important for people to understand that if you see someone who is simply using equipment to maneuver in their daily lives, you should not call them an inspiration simply because they exist.

If you want to genuinely call someone an inspiration, be willing to start a conversation and ask them what they do and if it truly inspires you then your next step in the relationship would be becoming an ally by supporting their work. People who live in the disability community are not people who need to be pitied or told sorry for what happened to you we are people just like anyone else who need people to support our work by sharing what we do and really seen us as people.

Happy International Cerebral Palsy Day

Okay, let’s get this over with, Yes I was born green! No, I’m not Seasick No I didn’t eat Grass as a child
Happy  #internationalcerebralpalsyday October 6th is a day of pride, celebration, and advocacy for those of us who have CP. Growing up having CP was difficult at times because of all the medical drama that comes along with it. It’s taken me half my life to discover the joy of being part of this awesome community. I don’t want to ever go back to being alone. If I could tell my younger self a few things I would say: 1. You’re not weird  2. When you get older you’ll reach the point when you’re comfortable in your body and your equipment will bring you independence 3. You’ll find a community that becomes an instant family.
As a community, we have a long way to go to gain proper respect and representation but we are on our way. The children in our community need to see adults that look like them so that they can see what is possible and what could look like. Super cool, because it’s done on wheels!
This real-life green girl is loving her life.

Helping others

In what ways does hard work make you feel fulfilled?

When I am keeping busy with my podcast I think of the people that I might be talking to, and I think of the problems that they may be going through. I want to let people know that I have been there whether it would be not hearing God Speak clearly in our lives or losing a friend or trying to find community. My ultimate goal in any work that I do is to point to the one who gave me the ability to do it because we did not just appear out of the blue.
